Vancouver is a beautiful city, there’s no question there. But it’s also expensive and busy, so people often question, why should I come to Vancouver to study? What makes it so special?
Let’s explore the top 5 reasons why coming to Vancouver to study at Nimbus may be one of the best decisions you’ll make!
#1 – a natural outdoor playground
Vancouver is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains, lakes, and oceans in the world, and Nimbus is at the heart of it. Located in the South Granville neighbourhood, students are a hop skip and jump away from the sandy beaches of Jericho or Kitsilano, or the sweat-inducing Grouse Grind hiking trail. The seawall provides biking and walking paths that outline the downtown core providing breathtaking views of the incredible landscape. So, when students need a break from studio life, it’s not hard to find a quiet spot near the school to take in the views and just breathe (or nap!).
#2 – the food
We could write a whole blog dedicated to just the food options in Vancouver. Everything from Japanese, to Korean, to Indian and much MUCH more, the city is a true melting pot of deliciousness. Although the school resides close to a worldwide fast food burger joint…Mac-something-or-other…we encourage all students to explore the neighbourhood where they’ll find delicious sushi houses, mom and pop sandwich shops, bubble tea, coffee shops, and many more. Many of Canada’s top rated restaurants reside in Vancouver, so if you’re a foodie, this is definitely the city for you.
#3 – The music
The Nashville of the North, Vancouver is home to some of the best songwriters, artists, producers, and engineers in Canada. You’ll be hard-pressed to not be able to find music playing at a venue, restaurant, bar, or corner of the street every day of the year. There is also a vibrant theatre and classical scene as well, with many concerts taking place at the famous Orpheum theatre weekly. From record labels, publishing companies, opera companies, and more, students who study at Nimbus really have the music industry at their fingertips.
#4 – public transit
Planes, trains, and automobiles. Oh, and also scooters, car shares, bike paths, and one of the most walkable cities in North America. Vancouver prides itself on having some of the most accessible and green-initiative public transit options in Canada. Students may find close housing options and walk or take the bus to school, while others live further out in the cities that surround Vancouver like North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Burnaby, or Surrey. All of these cities are connected to Vancouver through a great transit system (Skytrain, Seabus, and ViaRail), and are a great option if looking to lower housing costs, while also only being 30-45min away.
#5 – nimbus
We couldn’t create a list of the top reasons to study in Vancouver without mentioning Nimbus now could we! Nimbus opened its doors in 2010 and fast became one of top recording and engineering schools in North America. Founded by industry powerhouses, Garth Richardson and Bob Ezrin, Nimbus was born out of a love for teaching and music and wanting to train the next generation of music buffs. Students learn in real studios, on some of the best and industry standard gear out there. Not to mention, they learn from instructors who are all current music industry leaders. Our students have gone on to win Grammy awards, Junos, Film and Television awards, and many more.
