Congratulations to Artist Development Alumni, Darius Crump, on winning the 2022 MusiCounts Accelerate Scholarship! This annual scholarship program from MusiCounts help accelerate the careers of 5-7 aspiring music professionals who are nearing the completion of their post-secondary studies in music. Through a $5000 financial award and an intensive mentorship and networking experience, this scholarship has a significant and long-lasting impact on the lives of young people who are on track to get started in the music industry.
Every year, each post-secondary school in Canada can nominate up to three students who are nearing the end of their studies in music performance, music production, or music business. Darius was getting ready to graduate from the Artist Development program – an intensive 16 week course designed to help artists get ready for the next step in their career through songwriting classes, photoshoots, videoshoots, workshops, and much more, when we felt he was deserving of a nomination. It was an easy decision as Darius worked tirelessly throughout the program to perfect his craft.
As one of only 7 recipients in all of Canada, Darius will now receive a $5000 scholarship and participate in an intensive music industry mentorship experience with the likes of Alysha Brilla (JUNO Award-nominated artist, songwriter and producer, session presented by Believe Music), Kathleen Reid (Agent & Managing Director, The Feldman Agency), Keziah Myers (Executive Director, ADVANCE, Canada’s Black Music Business Collective), and Matt Webb (guitarist from the JUNO Award-winning band Marianas Trench).
