One of many benefits of studying at Nimbus is the ability to focus your studies on an area that interests you, while also gaining a wide range of transferrable skills in music and media. Recent Beats & Urban Music Production alumnus and electronic music producer, Kale MacCharles (Kale Mac) is passionate about creating his own music, but also about working with Pro Tools, post production, and engineering audio.
Thanks to his Nimbus training and networking opportunites, Kale has landed a job as a Studio Assistant for Koko Productions in Vancouver. We recently spoke with Kale to find out more about his new job!
What is your Position at Koko Productions?
“My role is to help the engineers with sound effects for TV shows, editing recorded audio, or anything else that needs to be done here. I actually contacted Rob Stefanson about possible job openings, and Koko had recently contacted him saying they had a position open. It was really good timing for me. I feel very lucky!”
Did Your Nimbus Training Help You Find Work?
“Yes, Nimbus definitely helped me get this job, it taught me what the industry standards were and the basic knowledge of my day to day tasks. Nimbus training helped me to become proficient in ProTools and gave me knowledge in recording, as well as how to communicate well in a studio.”
Would You Recommend Nimbus?
“Definitely! I thoroughly enjoyed going to school. The only tough part was I wished it was longer! There’s a great sense of community at Nimbus. I would try and be in the studios as much as I could… You would just meet new people and learn things from them every day. Everyone was always more than happy to talk about what they were working on or vice versa. Definitely a positive experience for me.”
What Are Your Plans Or Goals For The Future?
“Well, I’ve got two big dreams, first is the more reasonable one… which also pays the bills: I would love to be an engineer at a post production company, and continue to work in this side of the audio industry. Working at Koko Productions is definitely a great step for me to achieve that. The second is to have my own productions take off. I want to be able to work with artists around the world and make a living off it! I am constantly making my own music. I don’t plan on ever stopping that.”
Great, Have You Released Any Music Recently?
Yes! I just finished a remix last week!
Congratulations on the new job, Kale and good luck with your future endeavours! We’re proud of you!
