Admissions Requirements

The following Admissions requirements are for all students. 

International students must meet additional requirements in order to be enrolled at Nimbus. If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, please see our International Student requirements.

You must be a high school graduate or at least 19 years of age. 

  • Students seeking admission into Live Sound Mixing and Recording (LIVE 200) and Artist Development Programs (ADEV100) must be at least 19 years of age at the first day of the course.
  • International students are required to show proof of English proficiency. Minimum scores showing the following TOEFL 65 and IELTS 5.5 will be accepted. International students also need to obtain a valid study permit before the first day of class.
  • No technical knowledge is required, as we will teach you everything you need to know. Nimbus looks for students who love and live music, are creative and have a drive to succeed. Does that sound like you? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Technical Requirements

In addition to the above admission requirements, you must meet the following hardware and software requirements by the time you start your course:

1. Hardware Requirements:

Audio Engineering: Students starting with Intro to Audio Engineering (ENGR100) will be required to have a MacBook Pro with the following minimum system requirements: 13” MacBook Pro with 8GB memory and 256GB HD (512GB HD and 16GB memory recommended).

Artist Development: Students starting with the Artist Development Program (ADEV100) will be required to have a MacBook Pro with the following minimum system requirements: 13” MacBook Pro with 8GB memory and 256GB HD (512GB HD recommended).

Music Business: Students starting with Introduction to the Music Business (MIND100) will be required to have a laptop capable of running Microsoft Office (Mac or PC).

Video Production: Students starting withContent Creation for Music & Media(CCMM100) will be required to have a MacBook Pro with the following minimum system requirements: 15″ MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

Live Sound: For LIVE 200, all students must be 19 years of age or older at the beginning of the LIVE200 course.

2. Software Requirements

ALL AUDIO PROGRAMS

Students starting with Intro to Audio Engineering will be required to have the following software:

  • ProTools 12 (Subscription OR Perpetual License)
  • Melodyne Assistant 4
  • Antares Auto-Tune Pro
  • Native Instruments Komplete 12

Recommended but not required software:

  • Logic Pro X
  • Ableton Live 10 Suite
  • Massey DRT

ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCTION

  • ProTools 12 (Subscription OR Perpetual License)
  • Melodyne Assistant 4
  • Antares Auto-Tune Pro
  • Native Instruments Komplete 12
  • Ableton Live 10 Suite
  • Serum (Serum can be rented for the months it is required)
  • Sylenth (Sylenth can be rented for the months it is required)

Recommended but not required software:

  • Logic Pro X
  • Massey DRT

ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

Students starting with the Artist Development Program are required to have the following software:

  • ProTools 12 (Subscription OR Perpetual License)

MUSIC INDUSTRY

Students starting with Introduction to the Music Industry and Entrepreneurship will be required to purchase the following software:

  • Microsoft Office Student Edition (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Students starting with Introduction to Video Production are required to have the following software:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud ($20 USD/Month)
  • Class 10 SD Card (32 GB minimum)
