All Faculty Members At Nimbus Are Current Music And Media Professionals, Actively Involved In Their Industry.
PRESIDENT - John comes to Nimbus as a strategic leader with over 20 years of experience in business development and relationship-focused organizational growth. Prior to joining Nimbus, John spent a over decade of his career building one of the world's top performing private post-secondary admissions teams at the Vancouver Film School. With a degree in psychology and sociology, a background in music and recording arts, and extensive experience in the private post-secondary media education sector, John brings his expertise in personal, educational and relationship-focused business knowledge to the Nimbus team.
CAMPUS DIRECTOR & SENIOR EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR - Courtney brings over 15yrs of private post-secondary education experience to Nimbus, highlights include student services, quality assurance, operations and leadership. Her passion has always been to create and facilitate amazing experiences for those who attend, graduate and work for the school. She believes in fostering relationships, teamwork, empowerment, and has an open door policy to support the success of those on/off campus. She's earned a degree in Psychology while studying abroad, a diploma in Adult Education and continues to pursue higher education.
DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS - Ryan has worked in the Creative Post-Secondary Education sector for over a decade. In this time he has had the privilege of leading and growing several academic units by empowering individuals to work together to become strong unified teams. He has a strong commitment to providing students with a supportive environment as they discover if Nimbus is the best place to start their career in the music industry.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - Hannah is the resident Brit of the Nimbus admin department. She is a Radio Arts graduate with a borderline obsessive passion for music. You may find Hannah at the Nimbus front desk, the other end of your phone, or pretty much any coffee shop in the Metro Vancouver area.
CREATIVE CONTENT & DIGITAL BRAND MANAGER Rory brings a wealth of experience to Nimbus after enjoying a 20 year career working with the Vancouver Canucks, Sportsnet, The Vancouver Aquarium and Providence Health Care. He’s traveled extensively while in the professional sports world, working in a high-pressure, quick turnaround production environment.
CONTROLLER - Warren works diligently, day in and day out, keeping the lights on.
ADMISSIONS ADVISOR - Kentya graduated from the Advanced Music Production Program in 2016. Kentya hails from Saskatchewan and is the voice of the very cool band Stella Soul. Kentya divides her time between her musical career and the Admissions office at Nimbus, where she shares her love of all things music and Nimbus with just about anyone who'll listen!
FINANCIAL AID & COMPLIANCE MANAGER Alison has an extensive history in the post secondary education sector working as a Financial Aid Officer and Compliance Manager for most of her 20 year career. She’s a welcome addition to the administration team and is a wonderful help for all Nimbus students.
CONTENT INSTRUCTOR AND CONTENT CREATIVE DIRECTOR - Art Director and Filmmaker Brandon William Fletcher's images and work have been commissioned by a wide range of clients including M83, Scott Helman, Warner Music Group, Universal Music, Blonde Diamond & SAXX Underwear Co. In a past life Fletcher was the Creative Director of the award-winning Canadian live music venue Habitat and the $10.1 million, award-winning PEAK Performance Project. He was nominated for "Video Director of the Year" at the 2017 Western Canadian Music Awards and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Music BC.
CHIEF ENGINEER - Coulten has worked diligently at Nimbus for over 7 years and is one of the schools’s deepest technical resources. Doing everything from managing our technician team to building console desks, he’s Nimbus’ technical wizard.
FACILITIES MANAGER - Mangal is the guy overseeing all the nooks and crannies at Nimbus, keeping the place fresh, looking good and running smoothly.
SENIOR ADMISSIONS COORDINATOR - Sheena comes to Nimbus with 18 years of customer service experience. Her previous 8 years were spent within the admissions department of a World Leading Entertainment Arts Post Secondary institution. She is a huge fan of top 40 hits and loves a catchy tune. As your first point of contact, she is ready to help you with all the information you need necessary to take on this next exciting step in your life.
FOUNDER GGGarth has worked with some of the music industry’s most beloved and exciting bands including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss and Alice Cooper, and 2013 Best British Band winners, Biffy Clyro. GGGarth produced and engineered Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled debut album, the album earned him a Grammy nomination for his engineering work and secured his place among the world’s top record producers. GGGarth founded Nimbus School of Recording & Media in honour of his father, Jack Richardson, who is known as one of the greatest producers the music industry has ever seen. The Juno for Producer of the Year is known as the Jack Richardson award.
HEAD AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Dean is a highly skilled and sought after JUNO Award nominated audio engineer with a long list of talented artists and projects under his belt, since starting his career as a young and green runner at Little Mountain Sound studios in 1993. Dean is known for his skillful engineering style and crafted mixes, allowing him to work with some of the music industry elite including Elton John, Michael Buble, Slayer, Gene Simmons as well as more recent artists Trapt, Rise Against, Atreyu, From Autumn To Ashes, Faber Drive and Mariana's Trench.
HEAD BUSINESS INSTRUCTOR - Jenn Barker spent many years working in the non-profit sector with such prestigious Vancouver festivals as the Vancouver Fringe Festival, Vancouver Storytelling Festival, the Vancouver Folk Festival and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival (for which she was the GM). Jenn started her own company, Your Operator Co., offering the services and advice that artists and labels need to succeed. She has worked with a range of music industry clients including: Mint Records, Matador Records, Neko Case, Destroyer, The New Pornographers, The Pack a.d., Kathryn Calder, Carolyn Mark, and Shuyler Jansen.
PRODUCTION INSTRUCTOR - Futch has been producing music since 1988 and has been working with Nimbus since the school opened its doors in 2009. Futch has a unique and natural stand-up comedic style that allows him to break down the critical elements of audio theory and signal flow into its base components in a way that is easy for students to understand. He has also produced, engineered and mixed most of the projects he's been involved in, and worked in all styles of music, from Folk to Metal to Electronic and continues to produce his own electronic music.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Alex Aligizakis, aka "Condor", has 20 years experience working in recording studios under the tutelage and mentorship of legendary producers and engineers such as GGGarth Richardson, Bob Ezrin, and Randy Staub. His engineering work was nominated for best rock record at the 2010 Juno's with Warner signed artist "Hail the Villain", he attained some Canadian radio and indie success in 2012 with the mixing of Bend Sinister's "Small Fame", and most recently he returned full circle to mix the highly anticipated upcoming release from "Danko Jones" called "A Rock Supreme" for his long established mentor GGGarth Richardson.
BUSINESS INSTRUCTOR - Allen Moy has built a career in artist management, and has founded and co-founded several media and entertainment groups. Performing in various local Vancouver bands throughout the late 1970's and early 1980s, Moy began producing records for several local bands in 1983, including the first full-length album "Set the Fire" by upstart act 54-40. In 1985 Moy, along with partner Keith Porteous, formed the company Gangland Artists which would go on to manage such notable Canadian acts as 54-40, Mae Moore, and Sons of Freedom. Gangland Artists was actively involved in various other aspects of the industry such as video (Producing music videos for 54-40, The Grapes of Wrath, Moev, Paul Janz to name a few.
BUSINESS INSTRUCTOR - Amalia Judith is a writer, producer and educator with an inquisitive mind and a passion for words. Amalia found her way to the top of the Canadian hip-hop industry in 2010; she helped build HipHopCanada's West Coast team from the ground up. From adjudicating the JUNOs rap category to providing JUNOs red carpet coverage, she is firmly embedded in Canadian media and music having interviewed artists including Drake, Pharrell and Lil Kim. Between integrating musicians with community-based PR campaigns, producing music videos and documentaries and developing branding strategies, Amalia is ecstatic at the chance to share her skill set with the Nimbus team.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR Ben is based in Vancouver as a producer, engineer, mixer, programmer, and is also one of the founders of Fader Mountain Sound. He has a long list of credits including Hedley, Mother Mother, Rise Against, Shakira, Gallows, Trapt, Ten Second Epic, Atreyu and Chevelle. Ben has established a reputation in the business as a Pro Tools whiz and a guy with great ears and a lot of musical talent who brings creativity, beauty and perfection to every mix and every recording. Nimbus Advanced Audio Engineering students enjoy their time learning from Ben’s extensive experience.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Brock McFarlane has assisted and engineered on projects including Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench, K-os, Hedley, and Hey Ocean. Not satisfied to simply work with audio, Brock strives to understand the electrical and acoustic principles behind it. This desire has lead Brock to study and experiment with electrical and acoustical engineering, designing and modifying audio equipment as well as acoustic treatments for his own Vancouver mastering studio, CPS Mastering. For Brock, audio engineering is both an art and a science.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR AND TA - Cody is a talented audio engineer who started his career at Nimbus as a tech. Cody holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario, specializing in Music Administrative Studies, Music Theory, Composition, and Audio Engineering. Before venturing out West in 2010, Cody held the position of House Engineer at Willyboy Recordings in London, Ontario, having the privilege of working with Kevin Doyle (Anne Murray, Hall & Oates) as his assistant engineer. Cody currently owns and operates his own music production company and studio, Fiend Recordings.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Studying film at Queen's University in the early 90s, and then electroacoustic communications at Simon Fraser University in the mid to late 90s, alongside DJing and producing electronic music, Daniel signed his first recording deal with Nettwerk as a recording artist in the late 90's and in 2005 signed his second deal with Last Gang Records in Toronto, and has actively continued working as a recording artist since. During the late summer of 2007, Daniel co-founded Vancouver's own Fader Mountain Sound studios.
AUDIO AND ADEV INSTRUCTOR - Multiple JUNO Award-winner Dave Genn is a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and performer. Since 2003 he has been the lead guitarist for Canadian alt-rock heroes 54-40 and has appeared as a writer, producer and performer on the band's most recent albums. In 2017 Dave and 54-40 were inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame as StarWalk Star members. Prior to his tenure with 54-40 he was a member of the Matthew Good Band from '95 until 2001. Dave has produced career making hit singles for pop-rock juggernaut Marianas Trench, including the number-ones "Shaketramp", "Cross My Heart" and "All to Myself". Dave's soundtrack work for film has garnered him three Leo Award nominations to date for multiple short film scores. He was Musical Director for award shows as well, most notably the NHL Awards '07 and Canadian Video Game Awards in 2012.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR AND TA - Jeremy moved from the interior of BC to Vancouver in 2006 to attend audio school, where he graduated at the top of his class. As a student, Jeremy began interning at Hipposonic/Mushroom Studios part-time, ultimately working his way up to full-time assistant engineer and house engineer positions while assisting on high profile recording and mix sessions for artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Kiss, Mother Mother, Hannah Georgas, K-OS, 54-40 and others. As a freelance and mixing engineer, Jeremy has worked with many artists and producers like Colin James, Ben Mink, Steve Bays, Matt Webb, and Kevin Maher.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR AND TA - Joe Ponting hails from the UK. He started as a DJ and established himself as an electronic music producer. Joe graduated from the Nimbus Advanced Music Production Program in 2016 and brought his talents back in a TA and instructing role beginning in 2017.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Noah has been an instructor in the Live Sound department since 2016.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Nygel learned the ropes as an assistant engineer/production assistant for GGGarth Richardson. Eventually he moved on to become GGGarth's studio partner, studio manager and head engineer at The Farm Studios. Nygel now operates his own recording facility, NYG Productions. As an award winning producer, engineer, and mixer Nygel has worked with many successful artists, most notably producing and engineering Half Moon Run's debut album "Dark Eyes" which was certified platinum in the fall of 2016. His songs have been placed on such shows as Mary Kills People, Scream, Teen Mom, iZombie, XFactor DR, Heartbeat, Saving Hope, The Fosters and Degrassi: Next Class.
AUDIO INSTRUCTOR - Swann Barrat has always been passionate about live music and at age 16 Swann decided to become a sound engineer. After graduating from an electrical engineering program at Institut Universitaire de Technologie in Poitiers, France, Swann moved to Vancouver and studied Audio Engineering and Production at the Pacific Audio Visual Institute. A freelance sound technician, Swann has worked at most Vancouver venues, including 5 years as the head technician at the Biltmore Cabaret. As both a tour manager and a front of house technician, she has toured all over North America and Europe with Blind Pilot, Hannah Georgas, The Belle Game and The Pack AD.
TA - Elisa is a talented producer and engineer spending many hours in the studio at Monarch Studios in Vancouver. Nimbus is fortunate to have Elisa's talents on TA days where she shares her gifts with Nimbus students.
TA - Karl Dicaire is an audio engineer's engineer; he has a work ethic second to none. Karl isn't happy until everything is just right. He shares that love and dedication with Nimbus students in his role as teaching assistant. Karl recently worked on the Big Wreck record "Grace Street" which was nominated for the JUNO award for Best Rock Album.
TA - Larisa graduated from the Advanced Music Business Program in early 2016 and joined the NImbus team as a teaching assistant in 2018.
TA AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Nick has been a mainstay in the Nimbus tech department since 2010. He's seen it all and has the stories to tell. Nick now splits his role and is sharing his experience with students as a Teaching Assistant.
TA Olivia graduated from Nimbus and quickly found herself working on albums and growing her career in the music industry. She now works now as a producer/engineer at Vancouver based Monarch Studios while also spending time mentoring and working with Nimbus students.
TA AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Tim graduated from the Advanced Music Production program in 2013 and has been a tech at Nimbus ever since. Tim has continued to grow and flourish in his music career, and now shares that knowledge and experience with students in his role as teaching assistant.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Brandon graduated from the Advanced Studio Production Program in 2014 and returned to do a Post Diploma in Advanced Audio Engineering. He joined the tech team after graduating in 2015 and has been a key member of the department ever since, balancing his time between Nimbus and his own audio endeavours. His speed and skill at ProTools, which he honed at Nimbus, was impressive enough to earn him the role of House Engineer at CREW studios in North Vancouver.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Cole graduated from the Beats and Urban Music Production or BUMP Program in one of the last of the BUMP graduating classes in 2017. (This class has now been replaced with the EMP set of Programs). Cole joined the tech team in March of 2018.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Eduardo graduated from Advanced Music Production in 2015 and joined the Nimbus tech team shortly afterwards. Eduardo brings a level of skill and know-how to the tech team, ensuring things are always running smoothly.
GEAR LOCKER TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Machayla is a metalhead born and raised in Lac La Biche, Alberta (about 2 hours NW of Edmonton). She plays guitar, piano and took lessons for bagpipes. Lyons has also worked as a Recreational therapist aide with seniors living with Dementia and Alzheimer's in an Assisted living home. A Nimbus alumna, Machayla took the Advanced Audio Engineering and Live Sound Diploma.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - Parmveer is a returning Nimbus alumni with experience as a Songwriter, Producer, and Engineer in the Hip-Hop/R&B genres. He has worked as a producer and engineer for many local artists from Vancouver and now is focusing on pursing his own career as a solo artist. His inspirations draw from his life as growing up as an Indian/Canadian and many pop culture references.
