And just like that, 2022 has come and gone in a flash. It has been an incredible year of growth and change at Nimbus. Here are a few of our highlights:
SPRING 2022
In the Spring of 2022 we saw Grammy nominations and wins for our Alumni and instructors. Current Music Production Recording & Business instructor, Spencer Bleasdale, started things off with Grammy nomination for Best Complication Soundtrack for Visual Media for the work he did with Apple+ tv series, ‘Schmigadoon!’. This was then followed by Nimbus Alumni, David Pimental, aka POMO, cinching a producer win for the 2022 Grammy’s Album of Year – Jon Batiste’s, “We Are”.
Congratulations!
SUMMER 2022
During our summer months, Nimbus students were given opportunities to work with record labels (604 Records) and music studios (Hipposonic Studio, The Farm Studios), music events and showcases (Monstercat), and earned coveted spots with film festivals (VIFF AMP)! We also nominated one of our recent spring Artist Development graduates for the coveted MusiCounts Accelerate Scholarship program, in which Darius Crump, was only 1 of 7 individuals chosen to win from across Canada. What a thrill! Congratulations Darius!
FALL 2022
As we settled into Autumn, we welcomed our newest Music Production Recording & Business along with Artist Development students. We brought back our monthly Mentorships Series, hosting some of the coveted industry professionals in the world like Dave Schiffman – Grammy award winning Engineer (Adele-25, Vampire Weekend, HAIM, etc), and Jonathan Simkin – Founder of 604 Records – Carly Rae Jepsen, Dallas Smith, Marianas Trench, etc.
We sent students to various gigs outside our school studio walls in order to gain real-life experiences like shadowing the front of house engineer for Michael Buble at his concert at Rogers Arena, and continued to provide job opportunities to outgoing graduates.
WINTER 2022
As we moved into the chilly Winter, Nimbus hosted our first ever open mic night to an overwhelming success; we were blown away by the talent! We also saw our Artist Development students take the famous Nimbus 9 Stage at Little Mountain Sound Studios to present their Artist Development showcase, performing in front of a panel of music industry experts. And finally, we said goodbye to the Music Production Recording and Business January 2022 class and the Artist Development August class at their graduation. We wish them all nothing but success and can’t wait to see what they will do!
As we close the chapter on 2022 and look forward to 2023, we can’t wait to see what other exciting things are in store!
We have SO many secrets we’d like to spill, but for now, we’ll just sip our egg nog and wish you all a very happy holiday season. See you next year!
LOOKING TO START YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY? WE JUST HAD 3 SEATS OPEN FOR OUR MUSIC PRODUCTION RECORDING & BUSINESS PROGRAM STARTING IN JANUARY.
