January 2021

Letter from the President – Heading into a New Year

Happy New Year. On behalf of the entire Nimbus team, I would like to wish you a healthy, happy and rewarding 2021. While as a school, a community, a country and the world, we still face several tough months as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and as vaccine distribution and immunization ramp up, here at Nimbus, we also know that we have many things to be grateful for, to look forward to, and to work towards.

Our new program has just officially launched (January 4, 2021) and that is incredibly exciting. The world is changing at a fast pace. To prepare Nimbus students for success, we must continue to adapt so that they are ready to meet industry needs. This new program was designed to do this.

The program takes the great work previously done at Nimbus and builds on it, providing an industry-relevant foundation that allows our students to build their skills and hone their talent so that when they graduate, they are ready to hit the ground running. It provides an important balance of creative and business focus that will help our students to become in-demand professionals – professionals who can record and produce audio or music, collaborate with a range of others creatively, build a career or company, think critically and problem solve. Our focus on student success continues and the new program will provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skill sets that will allow them to create projects that truly represent their passion and talent, with the end result being the ability to develop unique entertainment properties. And, of course, all of this is done in an immersive, collaborative environment, with students learning at an accelerated pace and graduating in one year.

We all know that 2020 was challenging. To keep our students and staff safe, we moved quickly to follow directives that health authorities put in place to help stop the spread of the devastating and deadly coronavirus. We had to rapidly adjust in order to deliver courses in an online/blended model. The silver lining in this is that it created the opportunity for the majority of our students to spend even more time with experienced, well-trained instructors – and more creative time in the studio. We now also provide a range of additional options that include providing alumni, who were impacted by the pandemic, with access to the studios post-graduation and the ability to audit classes – including classes that we will introduce with the launch of our new program, creating a robust alumni program like no other.

As we move forward in 2021, we are working to do better regarding diversity at Nimbus – and are also working to understand how we might take on a role in championing this important conversation and how we can help to make positive change in the industries we serve. There is much for us to learn and we are committed to doing so over the coming months. We are currently going through a process to engage a diversity specialist so that we do this the right way. We will continue to keep you posted on our progress.

Over the past year, we saw several of the Nimbus team go above and beyond as we navigated the unprecedented waters of the pandemic. They stepped up and took on additional responsibilities, asked how they could help, and went out of their way to bring a positive “can do” attitude to their work – which is not easy in such a difficult time. We also saw many of our students reach out to support one another and to engage with us as we shifted to follow directives from health authorities. All of the kindness, compassion and collaboration from both students and staff is greatly appreciated.

As a team, we always keep the success of our students at the forefront of everything we do, and we will continue with that commitment in 2021. We are incredibly proud of our team and their dedication to our students and alumni.

Thank you for your support and feedback. Your engagement with us helps us to grow and improve as professionals and as a school. We are grateful for each and every staff member, student and alumnus – and their families. I hope that 2021 brings you health, happiness and success.

Yours truly,

John Robertson
