Hey everyone,
We’ve all been CRAZY busy this week! From day one we’ve been setting up studios and lugging gear everywhere. Including some very creative refurnishing to get drums set up and microphones placed.
The scenery here couldn’t be any better. As I’m writing this I’m sitting on the balcony looking over the entire lake. And I can’t forget to mention how great it is to actually have three proper meals in a day. After running countless cables and setting up our rigs we were able to enjoy a little bit of time off. Our second day here we had an intense ball hockey game against the artists. It was such a tight game and everyone was busting their asses off, but in the end the artists took the cup with a final score of 8-2. That is close in ball hockey right? Anyways, later that night we started tracking for the songs this week. I’ve been lucky enough to be helping Jeff Dawson on the sessions and watching him work has been a great learning experience and I look forward to starting the next project tonight.
I’ve been helping out great bands such as The Fugitives, Mike Edel, The Gay Nineties, Georgia Murray, and tonight we are collaborating with both Tough Lovers and Maurice. Definitely check out their music. Every night here artists perform showcases and the talent is through the roof. Recording usually starts around 10:00 PM and ends sometime around 3AM, then after the artists leave there is tear down to be done and a bit more work after the tracking. Every night is a late night, including last night where I didn’t get to sleep until 10 o clock this morning. This was after a morning jolt of jumping in the lake together at 7:30 AM.
It’s been very frantic at times but again I’m enjoying a lot of this experience. Needless to say it does come with a lot of stress and frustrations, but it’s always a great reminder to know that I’m a part of a great group of people who are helping out 20 of BC’s great artists and bands to create some awesome songs. The music at the end of the day is always so cool to hear after all the time and work put into it.
I can’t forget to talk about the other awesome assistants from Nimbus that I’m helping out with. Josh Field, Isaac Min, Evan Clarke, Oliver Hart, and Kevin Shuttleworth are all great guys and are very devoted to their work. I will be posting more frequently with more content to enjoy as well so you can get a taste of what goes on here at the Peak Performance Project.
Catch you all later,
Brendan Stookey
